Breath freshening products have proven to only mask mouth odor.
No longer. New research has shown that 90% of all halitosis
problems occur from what's happening in the mouth. And now, there
are effective ways to treat this problem.

- In-Office Bacterial Control. This is the
essence of professional halitosis treatment and involves:
a.) the removal of bacteria from under the gums where they colonize
and create sulphur compounds, and
b.) removal of the tongue coating and bacteria that live amidst that
coating.
In some cases this may involve simple cleaning procedures; however,
in the case of gum disease, further treatment may be indicated.
- Gum Disease Treatment.
Since the gums are one of the primary sites for halitosis
causing bacteria, if indicated, a dentist or dental hygienist will
remove the odor causing bacteria that have accumulated under the gums
using comfortable and non-surgical techniques.
- At Home Care. To be effective, in-office
bacterial control must be combined with proper at-home care. It is
important when personalizing treatment that the dentist be familiar
with the different oral hygiene tools available so as to guarantee
proper bacterial control. New breakthroughs in technology have allowed
scientists to develop new dental hygiene instruments. Ultrasonic toothbrushes,
ultrasonic flossers, and hydromagnetic irrigators have taken the science
of dental hygiene and put it in the hands of anyone who'll spend a
few minutes a day to eliminate their bad breath.
- Proper Maintenance. With professional treatment,
monitoring the level of halitosis is an integral part of the process.
Using the Halimeter, we can follow your progress and be able to make
any necessary modifications.

Zinc Chloride: A new, effective compound has been added to our
regimen in the dental office. A combination of zinc chloride,
eucalyptus, and thymol, all of which have antibacterial properties
is now being successfully used in the management of halitosis.

When proper professional care is combined
with effective oral hygiene techniques, you need never worry about bad
breath again.
Maintenance
Every 2-6 months, depending on severity, a follow-up test of the sulphur
compounds is done in our office. (If you feel you need one sooner, just
call. There is no charge for our patients.) This is usually part of
our regular check-up routine as are halitosis prevention procedures.
