Current TreatmentsTreatments for migraines usually involve drugs which usually work to eliminate pain or constrict the blood vessels in the head which are dilated (opened wider) when a migraine occurs. While these can be quite effective to moderate symptoms, they do nothing to eliminate the cause. If you suffer from migraine or other headache pain, please be aware of one scientific fact: TMJ is the major cause of much of the pain in the head, face, and neck areas. The reason is that the trigeminal nerve that comes from our brain is directly responsible for jaw and tooth functions while also feeding sensation to the jaws, face, tongue, sinus, palate, eyes, lips, and teeth. This nerve accounts for over 40% of the brain’s processing. In addition, this major nerve is also “married” to the facial, hypoglossal, and vagus nerves which cause sensation and function of almost all other muscles of our head, neck, and throat. Many branches of these nerves pass through or around the TMJ. Upsetting any of these 4 nerves usually ends up disturbing the other three. The treatment of headaches and migraines is virtually the same treatment for TMJ problems whether or not you have any signs of TMJ like popping, clicking, or grinding noises. Dr. Richard Miller has successfully treated headaches and migraines for over 30 years. For more information, click here.
